WHAT TO EXPECT

Prepare

By reviewing some of the basic information about government contracting before your meeting, you can ensure both you and your counselor are on the same page.

  • Review the Government Contracting Basics
  • Make a list of your current Business Registrations*
  • Determine what you would like to achieve by entering the government marketplace
  • Consider what type of assistance you need to reach your goals
  • Gather any relevant marketing materials
  • Write down any questions for your counselor

*If you have not completed any registrations, we will help you decide where to start.

Collaborate

The first meeting with your consultant is a discovery meeting. We want to get to know you, your business, and your goals. After your counselor understands what you are trying to achieve, they will be able to match you with services to help get there.

Once your goals are clear, it’s time to find out how to achieve them. You will work with your counselor to determine your business readiness level, identify potential opportunities, and submit winning bids. This part is different for every client and will be tailored to your needs.

Action Plan

Now that you know what needs to be done, it’s time to get down to it. Combine your tasks into an action plan and start to check them off. Take this time to learn as much as you can about the process, find or develop templates for things you will use often, and mark repeating tasks (like certification renewals) down in your calendar.

Get stuck on a particular task? Not sure where to go next? Don’t hesitate to reach out to Ohio APEX Accelerator at YSU for help.

Educate

There is always something new to learn when working in the government sector. We offer a variety of learning opportunities to help you master the rules, regulations, and technology needed – all at no cost to you. By committing yourself to continuous learning, you will be better prepared to compete in the government marketplace.
